International Material Data System (IMDS)

The IMDS (International Material Data System) is an administrative system of the automobile industry. The system is used for the registration of all components, materials and substance components which are used and fitted in vehicles. IMDS was created by the cooperation of several automobile manufacturers with the aim of managing standards, regulations and legislation at the national and international level.

The system is based, among other things, on the requirements of Directive 2000/53/EC on Old Vehicles and the Old Vehicle Ordinance, the classification of materials according to VDA 231-106 and the list of notifiable substances used worldwide in motor vehicles, GADSL.
