Technical Training Vocations

Process Technician (M/F) (Steel Forming)

This training offers a variety of employment possibilities in steel processing. You have a responsible job: "Not only are the machines expensive, but the material too. So you need to have everything under control." In the first year of training, Process Technicians are taught basic metal processing knowledge and skills. These include filing, turning, milling, welding and knowledge of control and electrical technology. Then you get to know the different production facilities in the firm. The responsibilities of the Process Technician include the monitoring and control of production and material handling equipment. You take samples, examine them and, in this way, test the whole production.

After the 3½-year training, Process Technicians are real specialists in their production unit. They can not only operate it, but are also able to quickly recognize problems and, if necessary, to maintain and repair the machine themselves.

Start of training: 29.08.2018
Number of vacancies: 3

Requirements

  • Preferably secondary school leaving certificate or good high school diploma
  • Manual dexterity and mathematical ability
  • Communication and ability to work in a team

Training location: Zapp Precision Metals GmbH, Locations Schwerte, Unna and Pforzheim

Industrial Technician (M/F)

In their basic training, Industrial Technicians learn the skills required in metal processing, such as machining, cutting, joining and forming, and the reading of technical drawings. Then they get to know modern technology: Trainees learn how to construct and test pneumatic and hydraulic circuits.

After their 3½-year training, Industrial Technicians have to service and maintain machines and production units. They intervene to correct faults and to repair defective machines, to recognize signs of wear on machines and to remedy them quickly. This prevents expensive failures and machine downtimes. Industrial Technicians are right when they say that, without them, "nothing happens" in the firm.

Toolmaker (M/F)

Making tools is precision work nowadays. When toolmakers talk about tools, they mean special tools for series production. Here they have to work to thousandths of a millimeter, with absolute precision.

After a training period of 3½ years, this skilled worker is qualified for the fabrication and maintenance of tools used in production. Toolmakers produce, fit, inspect, maintain and repair cutting, forming and processing tools, jigs, gauges and templates. With high precision, you will make tools, both manually and mechanically, in single production and according to drawings.

Electronics Technician (M/F) for Production Engineering

"Today a production unit, tomorrow perhaps an emergency generator." Electronics Technicians are specialists in electrical energy technology.

In the first month of their 3½-year training, Electronics Technicians are taught the techniques of metal working: filing, drilling, turning and milling. Later in their training, they learn how to assemble, install and commission machines for electrical power supply, control and drive technology and lighting and signal technology. They are also responsible for the service and maintenance of these machines.

Materials Tester (M/F)

Materials Testers investigate different materials (but mainly metals) with regard to their properties (e.g. hardness, toughness) and their behavior under specific stresses. In "destructive testing", the materials tester subjects the material to various tensile, stretching, pressure, bending and tearing tests. In "metallographic tests", the internal structure of metals and alloys is studied. The Materials Tester takes samples from defective workpieces, studies them under the microscope, takes photos and evaluates the material structure. By the application of "non-destructive testing", which includes x-ray and ultrasonic testing and magnetic techniques, they can detect faults inside workpieces without destroying them.
